Culture Jam: Volume 1 is an OC-affiliated event that aims to diversify the Kelowna Arts scene. The organizers are a collective of college students, staff, artists, local businesses, and youth groups that share a vision for a richer cultural community within the Okanagan.
Why? Because by bringing people together from different parts of the world, and inviting them to participate in various modes of expression, the opportunity for cross-cultural learning and understanding becomes possible.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Jam begins with a catered welcome where guests are encouraged to meet the performers, try different cuisines, and inquire about the visual art exhibits on display. Some artist/collaborator merchandise will be sold or raffled off at this time.
Once guests have arrived, live music will be performed by youth, student and emerging artists in sets of 5-10 minutes each. After a brief intermission, the dance showcase will take place featuring a combination of student clubs and local companies. The floor will then clear for a closing DJ set and laser show that combines a variety of music genres.
