KCCA Presents: The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet

Known for their stage antics, the BWBQ members use choreography, all manner of unexpected instruments, props, and skits to spice up their performances. This artist-run creative project explores the worlds of classical, pop, jazz, soundtrack, and folk music, all adapted for the bassoon ensemble by its members. NPR weighed in on one of their performances: “…it wasn’t just funny, it was inspired,” Their “quirky affability” has resulted in a global following on social media. The women, who met as students at the Eastman School of Music, aim to navigate the intersection of classical music, pop culture, and comedy and to expand the scope of bassoon performance.
