Ballet Kelowna 2022/23 Season

THE SEASON OF DRAMA

BALLET KELOWNA’S 2023/24 SEASON IS PRESENTED BY
THE THOMAS ALAN BUDD FOUNDATION

A MESSAGE FROM OUR
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR & CEO

The 2023/2024 season, The Season of Drama, features a spectacular array of narrative-driven dance works that encapsulate the interdisciplinary, creative energy of the theatre. Audiences will be transported through worlds and stories that explore humanity’s capacity for compassion, desire, and ambition.

As we move into a new season, Ballet Kelowna continues to bring emerging and established Canadian choreographers into the spotlight. This year, we are pleased to unveil a new work by Jake Poloz and remount Kirsten Wicklund’s compelling The Forever Part. We also invite Robert Stephen to create his third work for the Company, a ballet based on Kat Sandler’s award-winning play, Mustard, set to an original score by Owen Belton. The Season of Drama culminates with none other than Alysa Pires’ thrilling adaptation of William Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, Macbeth.

The 2023/2024 season marks my 10th anniversary as Artistic Director and CEO of Ballet Kelowna. It has been a privilege to guide the organization through the tremendous change and growth that has occurred over the past ten years. To celebrate this milestone, I will be remounting my satirical work Studies of Cash, as well as reveal a special world premiere, Delicate Fire, in honour and memory of visionary Canadian composer Jocelyn Morlock, whom I have had the honour of collaborating with through my choreographic career.

During my tenure, I have proudly upheld Ballet Kelowna's mandate to support the development of Canadian talent and brought over 40 new works into the Company’s repertoire. To further our commissioning activities and bring new choreographic voices to the stage, I am pleased to launch a new donor program, The Creators’ Circle. This program will provide benefits for giving, including exclusive invitations to Company class viewings, opening night receptions at the theatre, backstage tours, and more.

The Season of Drama offers exhilarating rising action and unexpected turning points that will captivate and inspire audiences. I welcome you to join us at the Kelowna Community Theatre where we can celebrate and enjoy the uplifting nature of the arts.
